Hello all families,
Happy week 10!
Shrek the Musical
This week Shrek the Musical was performed. We had two sold-out evening performances and a lovely matinee where families, our preschoolers, and the residents from Southern Cross Care were in attendance.
I am thrilled to celebrate the incredible talent and hard work of the students who dazzled audiences with their musical performances! Their dedication, creativity, and passion truly shone on stage. Each student gave their best and made the show a memorable experience for all.
Thanks to our directors, Mr Lawson and Ms Johstone, the staff, and all the volunteers who made costumes, who came in as make-up artists and supported our actors getting in and out of costumes. A very special thank you to Lyle Willams who supplied the production with its musical and technical support, and Jack who ran the lighting.
I am very excited to announce that two of our staff members were nominated for an ACT Public Education Award. Esther Riebe received a nomination as a New Educator and Carol Roland in her Learning Support capacity. These nominations are incredibly well-deserved and we are so proud of them both.

Pupil-Free Day
A reminder that Monday, 14 October is a Pupil-Free day. Staff will spend the morning working with leadership to collaboratively finalise our teaching beliefs around mathematics and spelling. The remaining section of the day will be for teachers to plan for the term in their teaching teams.
Staffing Update
After some much-needed rest, Karyn Penney will be returning to Campbell in her substantive role as Defence School Mentor. A huge thank you to Taite Gregg who has supported the school during this time. I am pleased to let you know that Taite will be returning in Term 4 in a whole-school support role.
As lots of families already know Ms Jess (Jessica Hewitt) has finished her teaching degree and has been offered a role at Wanniassa Hills Primary School. Within her learning support capacity, Jess has worked across the school. Jess is kind, patient, and incredibly dedicated. Her impact goes far beyond the classroom and will continue to positively impact other schools. We wish all the best for her next chapter and expect her to visit often.
I wish everyone a wonderful break and look forward to a very busy Term 4, full of community events and celebrations.
Take care,
Erin Minehan
Term 3 is always one of our busiest terms, and this one was no exception! We kicked off the term by celebrating 100 days of Kindergarten, which was a huge achievement for our little people.
With our whole-school Global Concept of ‘Connection’, learning opportunities were rich with explorations of how people across the globe are connected, which was also wonderfully evident in many of our calendar events throughout the term!
The term certainly had a flavour of performance, with many highlights including a K-2 excursion to Campbell High School to see the Matilda production, Year 3-6 students visiting ADFA for the Pirates of Penzance musical, Combined Band get-togethers and of course, our annual whole-school excursion to Floriade, where we enjoyed performances by our Years 5 and 6 bands, choir and Shrek ensemble. A very special thank you to our P&C for funding the purchase of gnomes for our preschoolers to paint and visit whilst at Floriade. Kindy-Year 2 students also enjoyed weekly Footsteps lessons, where they learnt some very impressive choreography. And of course, we can’t mention performance without highlighting the incredible Shrek production, which many students, staff and volunteers have been working on all year, culminating in spectacular performances this week.
There were many celebrations of sport this term, with lots of opportunities for students to be active! Several Campbell students represented our school at the Jamie Pearlman Cup, the NFL Gala Day, Sue Geh Cup and the Regional Athletics Carnival. Not to mention, our Year 2-4 students participated in a Softball clinic, and the whole school enjoyed the incredible work of our Year 5-6 leaders on World HPE Day, who prepared very enjoyable rotations and activities.
As always, Campbell students also had many opportunities to explore the local area and beyond, with Kindergarten visiting Tidbinbilla and Year 6 students travelling as far as Sydney for an immersive Japanese experience at the Tanken Centre. Students also represented our school at the Student Congress, which is a fabulous way for young people to engage with democracy and our roles as citizens. Our preschoolers also had a special visitor, the Nutrition Magician, who made everyone laugh whilst learning about sustainability.
This term we also celebrated Science Week with our annual STEM night, where many families came along to enjoy interactive and hands-on activities which were led by students. Book Week was celebrated with a fabulous dress-up day and a Book Fair, as well as fundraising efforts such as Camo for a Cause and Jeans for Genes Day.
No wonder we are all so tired (staff and students included)! It’s been a full and wonderful term. Big thank you to our staff and community for ensuring that Campbell students have many opportunities to enrich their learning!

Book Week Parade
That's a wrap for Term 3 Defence Club!
We had record numbers attending each recess, and the best part was the noise level! There was so much chatting and laughing while everyone enjoyed the different craft activities. The most popular ones were air-dry clay and beading bracelets with our best friends.
On the second last day of term, we all enjoyed a Zooper Dooper together and created another huge mess while making cards, playing with clay, dolls, stacking blocks, and sticking gems on our faces. The joy and creativity were infectious!
It's been wonderful to see everyone engaging and having fun together. Thank you to all the participants for making this term so memorable!

On Friday 13 September, Year 5 and 6 students had the opportunity to travel to Sydney to visit the Nihongo Tanken Centre for an authentic Japanese experience.
The students were divided up in to four teams: Usagi (rabbit), Inu (dog), Neko (cat), and Saru (monkey) and won points throughout the day to earn the honour of being top team of the day.
The immersive environment challenged them to further develop their Japanese language skills in fun games like Twister and timed team challenges.
Lunch was a wonderful break in the traditional Japanese shinto garden, complete with bento box. Student's hiragana knowledge was put to the test when naming different locations around the home, as was their dexterity when playing with kendama, a toy that requires you to catch a ball in the cup.
A huge congratulations to our students for tackling such a big day, and an equally huge thank you to all families involved for your support.

Help us, help you.
The P&C is an integral support to Campbell Primary School. Now it's your opportunity to help the P&C.
There are two openings currently available.
We are reaching out to our families for a new President and Vice President of the P&C. In each of these roles you would be volunteering under the support of our Business Manager/Events Coordinator, Belinda Bailie. These roles are critical to ensure a parent/carer body can continue to offer our before/after/holiday school care, canteen and uniform shop.
Please reach out if you have any interest or questions about the roles via email to: Business.Manager@campbellpandc.com
2024 ACT Election - 19 October 2024
Campbell Primary School will once again, be one of our territory's polling places on election day. To take advantage of this fundraising opportunity, the P&C will be holding a cake stall and a BBQ sizzle.
We are asking for volunteers to step forward and offer their baking skills, or time to man either the cake stall or the BBQ. With sufficient volunteers we would be able roster people on each stand making the day easier on everyone. So we will be most grateful for any amount of time you can offer on the day. Please use this link https://signup.zone/BxRLJNaSvhERmDyuy to select the time/stall you are able to assist.
More information about the donation of baked goods will be sent out closer to the day.
This is a magnificent school in every aspect - from our students, the build and grounds, our parents, staff, leadership and the wonderful wider community we are proudly a part of.
We would like thank all of you for your continued support.
Kindergarten Tidbinbilla excursion
In Week 8, Kindergarten visited Tidbinbilla as part of our Inquiry unit investigating Country, and the connections we make between ourselves and Country.
The day was packed full of learning and fun as we explored the Eucalypt Forrest and saw koalas, (including a joey!) and went on a guided walking tour with Ranger Scott.
The fun didn’t stop there!
For lunch we got back on the bus and went to the picnic area with a playground that had a flying fox, slides and even some water play!
When we came back to school, the Kindergarten Sharks looked at some pictures that were taken from the day and sequenced them in order of events. Students then cut out the pictures and wrote about each picture, creating a book of our time at Tidbinbilla. We stretched ourselves with our writing and created detailed illustrations.
We are so proud of the Sharks and the hard work they have put into creating their books.
