Dear families,
I would like to take a moment to thank Julie Vey, Carina Kemp and Natalie Barr for representing Campbell Primary School as School Board Chair and parent representatives. The School Board representatives are invaluable in advocating for the community and providing immense support and input into the school’s improvement journey and future directions. It has been a very unusual year and the School Board's commitment has been greatly appreciated. It has been an absolute privilege to work collaboratively with Julie, Carina and Natalie.
I would also like to thank our P&C for enhancing the learning opportunities of our students’ and their valuable input into supporting the school’s improvement agenda. I am looking forward to our continued partnership in 2022 as we transition into our new and innovative learning spaces.
To all our school volunteers……
We would love to say a HUGE
Usually, we would have a glorious morning tea to acknowledge your contributions to our wonderful community but in our current times this is not possible. We cannot wait until the day that we can welcome you back in to our school and classrooms.
Arrangements for the start of next year
On Wednesday, 15 December all families should receive an email regarding class placements for 2022. Over the past few weeks, we have received new enrolments and expect this to continue into the first week of school next year. It can be challenging to forecast the final numbers across student grade levels. Occassionally, this means there may be a few adjustments made in the first 2 weeks of the school year.
Monday 31 January
This is the first day for all our Preschool and Kindergarten students only.
New students in Years 1-6 will visit the school at 10:00am until 11:00am. During this time, they will have a short meet and greet with teachers and other new students.
Tuesday 1 February
This is a full day for all students and the first day back for all years 1-6.
We will email details regarding meeting points prior to the commencement of Term 1. We will be monitoring the Covid-19 requirements and building progress prior to this announcement.
Online eSafety Resources for Families
As we move into the holiday period and with our growing reliance on technology, it is important to increase our awareness of how to stay safe in the online world. The Office of the eSafety Commissioner provides advice and support to all Australians in this area. To support your child to navigate their digital world and avoid harmful online experiences, the following information can assist you in having the hard-to-have conversations about online safety and setting boundaries.
Your support and guidance can give your child the confidence to make sound decisions online – and know where to go for help when they need support or advice.
- Be engaged, open and supportive
- Get involved. Share online time with your child as a part of family life. Talk about favourite apps, games, and websites.
- Keep lines of communication open. Ask about their online experiences, who they are talking to and whether they are having any issues.
- Reassure your child they can always come to you, no matter what. Let them know you will not cut off internet access if they report feeling uncomfortable or unsafe when online – this is a real concern that may stop your child from communicating with you openly.
- Get to know the devices you and your child use and set them up for privacy and online safety.
- Use parental controls as appropriate to set boundaries.
- If you feel your child needs support, please maintain contact with our school so you can work together to support them. Seek professional help if your child is distressed or shows marked changes in behaviour or mood, remembering that organisations such as Kids’ Helpline and Beyond Blue can help.
- If you feel your child is in immediate danger or at risk of harm, call Triple Zero (000) and stay with them until they are safe.
You can find additional information and resources at the Office of the eSafety Commissioner to support you and your family.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
On behalf of the staff, I would like to say farewell to all the families who are moving from our school. We wish you all the very best in your new endeavours.
We wish all the families and friends of Campbell Primary School a wonderful, peaceful and relaxing Christmas and New Year break and look forward to learning with you in 2022.
Today Kindergarten to Year 6 families will have received their child/ren’s Semester 2 Academic Report.
As mentioned in a previous newsletter, you will notice that this semester’s reports look a little bit different to how they have in the past, due to varied ways learning was delivered during the remote period. As per Directorate guidance, Campbell teachers made decisions on what reporting outcomes (Achievement Standards) they have been able to gather evidence of learning for, and reported against.
Along with the Summative Reports, Years 1-6 have been given an A-E grade. These grades were determined by using on-balance judgement against the relevant Achievement Standard based on all of the assessment evidence collected over the semester, during both face-to-face and remote teaching.
Kindergarten to Year 6 students will receive a General Comment at the end of their Summative Report. The General Comment section provides families with a comment that reflects the whole semester and celebrates your child/ren’s achievements, acknowledging learning that occurred during both remote and face-to-face periods.
If you have any questions or would like to discuss your child’s report, please feel welcome to contact the school.
Dear families,
On Friday 17 December we will be holding a ‘Fun Day’ for students from Kindergarten to Year 6.
Children are invited to wear casual clothes, however, please remind them to wear enclosed shoes and shirts that cover the shoulders. Students are encouraged to wear bright colours to celebrate the end of the school year.
Time will be provided for children to play a variety of games with their classmates. If your child has a particular non-electronic game they would like to share with others in their class, they are encouraged to bring it along on the day. Please make sure the game has your family name on the box.
Teachers will select a movie with their class prior to the ‘Fun Day’. Movies will be rated G unless you have received a consent form from your child’s class teacher.
Icy poles will be given to students in the afternoon. It is wonderful to have such a supportive P&C who will be purchasing these for all of our students.
Finally, we have our very own DJ Carney booked for the breaks. She will be working her magic and playing a variety of self-selected tunes as well as taking requests. Students will remain with their year cohorts on the playground and may even like to have a dance party!
We are looking forward to celebrating the end of the 2021 school year with your children.
Please contact us if you have any questions about the day.
Kind regards,
Campbell Primary School Staff
What a busy and exciting time Year 2 have had in our last term, working together on a range of different learning activities. One in particular has been our investigation into the celebration of Campbell Primary’s 60th Anniversary, and why this is a significant event. We explored the school as it was, and how it will be, made comparisons and looked toward the future. In this process we even had the opportunity to design our own crest. Here are some examples:

Left: Greta B.
Right: Viktoria M.
Having prime views of the building site out of our windows this year has been very exciting for us all, and it sounds like our learners are keen to move in. Here are some of our thoughts:
“Then I get to have more space in the classroom and have more things to do.” - Zoe B.
“I am excited because it will be fun learning in a big space.” Riley M.
“It will be fun because we get to go out of our normal corridor and be with Year 3 and Year 4” - Matthew C.
“It's a 2 storey building and I’m really excited because our school is really old, and this is a new part and that’s really great!” - Tilly A.
“We will get to have a new place and with the new building and there will be more to explore” - Mika O.
Sporting Schools, Term 4 Program
Campbell Primary were once again successful in our application for sporting schools funding, but this term it looked a little different. With specialist coaches unable to attend site due to ongoing covid safe restrictions we were this term offered the opportunity to upskill our teaching and support staff in a nominated sports program. Teachers elected ultimate frisbee, lacrosse and football (soccer) for their various cohorts. After some wonderful professional development and utilising a range of new equipment all Campbell Primary students were enthusiastic in engaging with their chosen sport for a 4 week program, with some extending even further. Students were so keen much of the equipment was brought out for breaks for extra practice! Staff have been impressed with the effort and commitment from students and enjoyed the opportunity to learn some new sports right alongside them. There is very possibly a staff vs students ultimate frisbee game in our future, once restrictions allow!

We are very grateful for the opportunity to access these resources thanks again to the Australian Government Sporting Schools grant program. It has included a range of new equipment this term so that we can continue to engage in active learning well into the future. A big thanks to our teaching staff who extended themselves outside their comfort zone to learn and deliver new skills in unfamiliar sports.
We hope to see specialist coaches return in 2022.

ICAS Assessments
This year, the administration of the ICAS Assessments looked a little different (just like most things in 2021). Before the remote period, the children completed one assessment at school and the remaining assessments via Meets from home and at school. Each child did a brilliant job under some very unusual circumstances. Due to the remote period, ICAS pushed most of the assessment windows back, as a result some of the results are still pending. Please see below a list of the release results:
