Welcome back
It is lovely to welcome back all our students into their classrooms and to have them re-engaging with their learning and peers. We are looking forward to a time where we can open our doors and have an increased parent and community presence again! We would like to thank our community for some of the lovely feedback we have had as we have navigated through 2020. Although, entering the school is discouraged at this point in time, unless by appointment, please remember we are only a phone call or email away. Do not hesitate to reach out to us if you have any questions, concerns or information to share.

A visit from the Director-General: Katy Haire
Next week Campbell Primary School has the privilege of sharing our School’s improvement journey with Katy Haire. During her visit we will be touring the school, chatting to students and sharing some of the work we have completed in the classroom and during remote learning. We will also be sharing some of the amazing activities we have been doing to maintain a positive outlook including the work with the P&C to plant bulbs and our appreciation week activities.
School Satisfaction and Climate Survey: your feedback can make a difference
Listening to parents, staff and students is one of the most important things that schools can do. As part of our continuous effort to improve ACT schools, each year all parents, school staff and students in Years 4 to 6 are invited to give feedback through the School Satisfaction & Climate Survey. The 2020 survey will be available online from 10 to 31 August. This is your opportunity to have a say about your satisfaction with public education. Learn more about the survey on the Education website.
Winter Walk to School Week 10-14 August
Winter Walk to School Week 10-14 August (week 4) aims to encourage students to walk, ride, skate, or scoot to school even in the colder months. During winter in Canberra it can be hard to stay motivated and to get the recommended 60 minutes of physical activity that children need every day. Many schools have implemented new pick up and drop off procedures in line with physical distancing measures that may mean increased congestion in carparks. Encouraging students and their families to ride or walk to school to avoid congestion is just another good reason to travel to school this way.
New Chromebook
At the end of 2019 the P&C and the school very generously funded the purchase of 75 new student Chromebooks. The Chromebooks arrived during the remote learning period and since returning to face-to-face teaching have been utilised in our year 5 and 6 classrooms. With the addition of those 75 Chromebooks we have been able to create cohort sets for Years 2-4. A very big thank you to the P&C for their support.
Assemblies in Term 3
As of Friday 31st July, assemblies will begin again with a cohort presenting a prepared item. In response to COVID-19 restrictions, we will be holding separate junior (K-2) and senior assemblies (3-6) on a fortnightly basis. Unfortunately, families will not be able to attend the assemblies, however, the cohort’s prepared item will be filmed and added to the Campbell Connects Google Classroom.
If your family has not had a chance to add Campbell Connects Google Classroom, please use the code: z5fpq3b
The footage can be found in the Assemblies folder under the Classwork tab.
Updated Individual Learning Plans (ILPs), Personalised Learning Plans (PLP) Updated
If your child/ren in on an ILP or PLP, updated copies will be sent home in an envelope with your child/ren at beginning of week 4 (10th August). Families are asked to read over the document, send it back to school either signed or with some amendments. The school will keep a copy and the original will be sent home. If your child is new to this process, I will be in touch to organise a meeting.
2019 Year 6 Graduation Gift
In 2019, the Year 6 students organised a three-dimensional printer as their farewell gift. The printer arrived on Tuesday and Mr Scherer very eagerly began to set the device up in the year 6 classrooms for all teaching teams to be able to use. We are very excited to share all the teaching and learning opportunities that will be facilitated with the use of this device.

Dear families,
This term we will be starting up a LEGO Club for students to participate in each Friday at lunch. The club is an opportunity for students to further develop their coding skills through open-based projects, using the Lego We-Do 2.0 learning resource. These projects will be linked to other curriculum areas, such as, Science and HASS, and will give students the opportunity to design a solution to a given problem.
The Lego Club will take place in 1G classroom each week. The Lego Club will follow the below structure each week to ensure consistency from week to week:
12:50pm – Eating Time in 1G
1:00pm – Begin open-based project
1:30pm – Free play with Lego
1:40pm – Pack up
Student will only need to bring their lunch to the Lego Club as all Lego resources will be provided by the school.
Students who sign up will be allocated a partner to work with each session for the term. There is a total of 20 spots available, 10 spots for children in years 1 to 3, and another 10 for students in years 4 to 6. Students who are interested in joining will need to sign up by filling in the below slip and placing it in the box located at the front office from Thursday 30th July. To avoid disappointment, please return the slips promptly as the positions will be filled based on how quickly students return their forms. Please take the opportunity to discuss with your child committing to the Lego Club every Friday lunchtime from weeks 5 to 10. Miss Green will send home a note to students who have secured a spot in the Lego Club in Week 4.
If you have any questions related to the Lego Club, please do not hesitate to contact Rachel Green via email Rachel.green@ed.act.edu.au.
Kind regards,
Rachel Green

Assemblies will begin this term. However, due to COVID-19 hygiene restrictions, assemblies will look a little different.
If a junior cohort is hosting then only the students K-2 will attend and the years 3-6 will attend when a senior cohort is hosting. Mini assemblies will still continue in classroom for those groups who are not attending a hosted assembly. Other than teachers, there will be no other adults attending the assemblies. The assembly item will be filmed and posted on the Campbell Connect Classroom with the intention of the item being shared across the school. At this stage STAGS will not be drawn during assembly.
Early morning band practice for Year 5 will commence this Friday, 31st July at 8:15am and will continue every even week this term.
(Friday 31st July, 14th August, 28th August, 11th September and 25th September)
