- A quick reminder...
We have all made it to the final week of term 3 and it certainly has been a memorable 10 weeks! I would like to take a moment to thank and acknowledge the immense efforts, flexibility and support of our Campbell Primary School community.
Thank you to our teachers who have continued to deliver the Australian Curriculum, provide feedback, and support engagement and well-being through the remote learning platforms. Many hours have been spent creating online resources, filming, explicitly teaching and responding daily to student and parent queries as we endeavour to work in collaboration with families during this challenging time.
Thank you to our support staff who are assisting in supporting students and families and for their commitment behind the scenes to keeping the business side of schools ticking. Thank you also to the CPS staff for participating in additional professional learning that has been required to prepare for remote teaching.
Importantly, thank you to our students and families for your overwhelming support and commitment. We are very mindful of the demands of working and supporting schooling from home and understand that this can be challenging (many of the CPS staff are also in the same situation). The safety and well-being of our children is our priority, and we understand that each family’s circumstances are unique. Please stay connected and reach out if you need support or a listening ear. You can call the school during business hours on 61423680 where there is always a member of the leadership team available to talk with you.
We wish everyone a relaxing two-week break, hopefully away from computer screens! As per recent announcements, we will see you all back online for the commencement of Term 4.
Remote Learning continues in Term 4
The ACT Government continues to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. The ACT is currently in lockdown and students are learning remotely.
All families who can keep their children home have been asked to do so.
Schools will continue to remain open and provide supervised remote learning to children and young people who cannot reasonably learn from home.
Remote learning will continue for all students from pre-school to year 10 during the first four weeks of term 4, which begins on Tuesday 5 October. Plans regarding the return to school will be guided by ACT Government Health advice.
English Enrichment Poetry Competition
English Enrichment students have been working hard to craft nature poems during lockdown. These incredible poems are entered into the Red Room Poetry - Poem Forest competition, where a tree is planted to restore forest habitats around Australia for every poem entered. Ms Herrington will keep families informed of their progress in the competition.
Wishing our entrants the best of luck!
Saving Nature
I stare into the boughs of life,
Full of chaos and hidden strife,
What humans have done,
It’s too hard to describe,
Chopped down the trees,
Polluted the tide,
But there is still hope!
We can replant the trees,
Refresh the ocean,
We can’t just mope,
To open up nature,
We all hold the keys.
By Jacqueline H, Year 5
Flowers bloom as their perfume rises high in the sky,
The wind howls while the clouds drift by,
The moon shone bright in the midnight darkness,
Because all the wolves are barkless.
The sun rose as the darkness dozed down,
Birds chirping peacefully in high trees,
Snakes lurking, looking for enemies.
By Samantha B, Year 4
Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
If we don’t stop,
Nature will die too.
Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
My heart is petrified.
How about you?
By Lachlan C, Year 4
When I walk through the forest, I see fallen leaves, bent trees and flying bees.
I wander in deeper, things linger below,
Some as thick as a finger some nearly hollow.
They crawl everywhere even on my body, for a fact!
I stood still and I saw one, fairly fat!
It lumped around sharp and round. It picked my skin! And made a very bad sound!
I saw some roots!
And some very nice fruits!
Some were berries, some were cherries,
but my favourite of all was something very tall.
It looked like a mouse, as big as a house,
It is found in the sea.
It's sort of like a tree, but it has eyes like me!
It's dark blue and can give you the flu!
It's like grass all soft and floppy but what it really is… it sounds very poppy!
It gives you a shiver almost like a critter!
It gives you a headache like the sound of an earthquake!
It's like a denture but much more in the centre!
It reminds me of nature and it really is something major!
By Chloe K, Year 4a

The Autumn child had beautiful hair,
The shade of autumn leaves.
The autumn child had beautiful skin,
The shade of autumn leaves.
The Autumn child was tender and kind,
The Autumn child’s name was May.
A brand- new princess of the land of fall,
And time for a brand new day!
Scholastic Book Club, Issue 6 Orders
Book Club orders for issue 6 are now closed.
Due to the current lockdown families will NOT be able to collect their orders from the school as usual. We apologies for any inconvenience, however, restrictions state that Campbell Primary School cannot have anyone on grounds for a non-essential reason.
When the orders arrive a decision will be made regarding whether or not distribution is possible or whether the orders will be kept safe until collection is possible. Families who placed an order will be advised once a decision is made.
We will do our best to get the orders to families as soon as possible and ask that you are patient at this time.
If you have any further queries regarding the Scholastic Book Club please contact Mel Rhodes at melrhodes@ymail.com.
Campbell Primary School Pen Pal Program
As a way to promote connection and togetherness during Lockdown, we would like to start a school Pen Pal Program. The school’s key role will be to connect children, by collecting the names of interested children and partnering them up with another child. When children are partnered up with a Pen Pal, their postal addresses will be shared via email to the parents. It will be up to families to commence letter-writing and maintain this form of connection.
If you would like for your child to participate, please complete the Google Form below. Please be aware, that by choosing to participate, your postal address will be shared with the family that your child has been paired with.
We are really looking forward to providing children with an authentic purpose for their writing, as well as an opportunity to build a connection with another child within our school community.
Please contact Kate Herrington (kate.herrington@ed.act.edu.au) you have any further questions.

School Camps at Home!
School Camp at Home is a fantastic resource for Teachers and parents alike. Developed by the Office of Sport with COVID-19 lockdown in mind the activities can be done in a wide range of environments - parks, backyards, green spaces, balconies or even inside!
This can be a great way to break up a student’s day, the self-distancing and social isolation. Maintaining the public’s physical and mental well-being is now as important as ever. Where possible, it is important community members continue to exercise, so long as social distancing is practised and rules around public gatherings are complied with. Some of these you can do with your child, or set them free in the backyard, make a cup of tea, or catch up on work.

Support During Remote Learning
We know that being in lockdown can be stressful for some families. For the next few weeks, the most important thing you can do is support your child’s wellbeing – they may be feeling anxious or distressed. Older children may also be feeling overwhelmed with the information they are seeing on the internet and they may need some guidance to help them find the most appropriate information.
Keep in mind that children can express their feelings in many ways. I encourage you to speak openly with your children about what they are feeling.
As a parent or carer you can help your child with what they’re experiencing:
• Listen to their concerns – let them know you’re there for them and acknowledge how they’re feeling
• Make time to talk – provide a space for them to share their feelings and worries.
• Focus on strengths and hope.
There are a range of online and face-to-face services that can help you support your child. ACT Health has put together a page of information that families may find useful: Ways you can support your own mental health and wellbeing | Health (act.gov.au)
AWS in Communities has recently released their complimentary Family Tech Series that enables families to participate in enjoyable and educational online STEM workshops and presentations at their own pace.

The event offers a wide range of exciting content including tech keynote presentations, workshops and demos, a learning hub with educational videos for all ages and a careers corner. Something for everyone!

The COVID-19 pandemic is not over. Restrictions are still in place - including in our schools - and we all need to be vigilant. This includes not sending children to school sick.
If your child has any kind of illness, even if it is just a runny nose, they must not come to school. If your child is unwell at school, you will be asked to collect them.
It is important that we limit the spread of disease during this pandemic. By doing the right thing we can help keep Canberra COVID safe.
COVID-19 Exposure Locations ACT
It is important to stay up to date with the information regarding COVID-19, including the exposure locations within the ACT.
