English Enrichment Poetry Competition
English Enrichment students have been working hard to craft nature poems during lockdown. These incredible poems are entered into the Red Room Poetry - Poem Forest competition, where a tree is planted to restore forest habitats around Australia for every poem entered. Ms Herrington will keep families informed of their progress in the competition.
Wishing our entrants the best of luck!
Saving Nature
I stare into the boughs of life,
Full of chaos and hidden strife,
What humans have done,
It’s too hard to describe,
Chopped down the trees,
Polluted the tide,
But there is still hope!
We can replant the trees,
Refresh the ocean,
We can’t just mope,
To open up nature,
We all hold the keys.
By Jacqueline H, Year 5
Flowers bloom as their perfume rises high in the sky,
The wind howls while the clouds drift by,
The moon shone bright in the midnight darkness,
Because all the wolves are barkless.
The sun rose as the darkness dozed down,
Birds chirping peacefully in high trees,
Snakes lurking, looking for enemies.
By Samantha B, Year 4
Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
If we don’t stop,
Nature will die too.
Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
My heart is petrified.
How about you?
By Lachlan C, Year 4
When I walk through the forest, I see fallen leaves, bent trees and flying bees.
I wander in deeper, things linger below,
Some as thick as a finger some nearly hollow.
They crawl everywhere even on my body, for a fact!
I stood still and I saw one, fairly fat!
It lumped around sharp and round. It picked my skin! And made a very bad sound!
I saw some roots!
And some very nice fruits!
Some were berries, some were cherries,
but my favourite of all was something very tall.
It looked like a mouse, as big as a house,
It is found in the sea.
It's sort of like a tree, but it has eyes like me!
It's dark blue and can give you the flu!
It's like grass all soft and floppy but what it really is… it sounds very poppy!
It gives you a shiver almost like a critter!
It gives you a headache like the sound of an earthquake!
It's like a denture but much more in the centre!
It reminds me of nature and it really is something major!

The Autumn child had beautiful hair,
The shade of autumn leaves.
The autumn child had beautiful skin,
The shade of autumn leaves.
The Autumn child was tender and kind,
The Autumn child’s name was May.
A brand- new princess of the land of fall,
And time for a brand new day!
