Dear Families,
I cannot believe we are already in week 8! The term has certainly gone quickly, and the cold weather is starting to creep in! This also means that we are starting to grow a mountain of lost property. We will go through the items next week and return labelled clothing to their owners. Unlabelled items will be available for families to check until the end of week 10. After this any unclaimed items will be donated to charity.
Reports
Today we will be sending out a test email for our end of semester reports. We ask all families to check their nominated email address to confirm you have received a test email. Please also check your junk folder. If you do not receive a test email, please contact the front office to confirm your most current email address. This will enable the front office staff to make adjustments before reports are sent out on 17th June.
Have you followed us? Campbell Primary School Facebook page
The purpose of our Facebook page is to raise the profile of our school within the local community, as well as share information about the building works and general happenings in the school. It is not intended that it will be used as a platform for sharing information on student learning or as a means for families to contact the school. We will not be including identifiable photographs of students on the page. You can find our Facebook page at @campbellprimaryschoolcbr – follow us for exciting updates!
ICAS Assessments
We are delighted to inform you that Campbell Primary will be participating in the world-renowned ICAS Assessments this year. ICAS is developed by UNSW Global, a wholly owned subsidiary of the University of New South Wales, with over 36 years’ experience in educational assessments.
ICAS is designed to target students’ higher-order thinking and problem-solving skills in English, Mathematics, Science, Spelling and Digital Technologies.
Each assessment celebrates students’ accomplishments by providing opportunities for recognition. Every student will receive a certificate and an online result report. Top performers will be eligible for medals and are invited to attend special award ceremonies to have their academic excellence publicly recognised.
The assessments are suitable for students wishing to extend themselves academically and take up the personal challenge of competing in an international assessment. Your child will be presented with high-quality, expert-developed questions, allowing them to apply their learning without the need for prior study or revision.
ICAS Assessments are now online, a move that reflects a sector-wide transition to computer-based assessment. This allows greater accessibility for students and faster delivery of results.
Parents can access this service using this link:

Campbell Primary School's unique access code is:

Year 1 enjoyed catching up with our Year 4 Buddies last week to engage in a Reconciliation Day cooperative art activity.
We listened to The Rainbow Serpent story by Dick Roughsey (thanks to Helen at the Preschool for lending us the book!). Then we worked together to create our own Rainbow Snake. This story told of how the Rainbow Serpent, a great and powerful force of nature and spirit, created our land. As we created our art, we took time to chat and connect with our buddies.

Cross Country Inner North Regionals
On Friday 4th June, around 50 of Campbell Primary’s best cross-country runners braved the fog, mud, and cold at Stromlo Forest Park to line up to test their skills against the best from 15 other schools in our region. With between 80 and 100 runners in each age category. It was a significant challenge for our runners who acquitted themselves beautifully. All team members are to be commended on their perseverance, determination, and sportsmanship in difficult conditions. They represented our school community extremely well, with every athlete completing their allocated course and many setting personal best times.
A special congratulations to those that were awarded ribbons in their events: Sam C (Yr 6) 3rd, Gretchen C (Yr 6) 3rd, Esme K (Yr 2) 3rd and Rosie A (Yr 5) 1st. Congratulations also to those who finished in the top ten of their division and will be invited to progress to the ACT Championships on 16th June - a huge accomplishment!
Thankyou to all of the CPS parents who made the trip to Stromlo to support their children and all of our runners on the day.
Well done to everyone involved for making the day such a success.
Positive Behaviour for Learning
Welcome back CPS Families!
We are continuing to acknowledge our Safe Respectful Learners here at CPS. So much so, we have run out of Learner badges! I only ordered 200 thinking we would have plenty for this term. But once again the students at Campbell have blown teachers away with their behaviour choices and work habits, meaning a new badge order has to be placed ASAP!
The PBL committee thought with Yumma not happening at the moment, it would be great to celebrate our badge recipients in assemblies and here in the newsletter.
Below is a table of all the badge recipients at the time of writing this newsletter.
Keep an eye out in the next newsletter for new Safe Respectful Learners!

Social Emotional Learning as part of out PBL
As we wrap up our unit, Personal Strengths, it’s time to share just a snippet of some of the amazing work students have been producing on this topic.
We have been having many class discussions on personal strengths, where we see them and how we can use them to make a positive difference at home and school. We have also been identifying our own strengths. It has been fabulous to see students help each other identify personal strengths and it is clear there are close bonds in every class here at Campbell Primary School.
Next week I will introduce you to our new topic, Positive Coping.

World of Maths Roadshow
After not being able to host this popular event last year, it was with renewed enthusiasm that the students from K-6 welcomed the return of the World of Maths Roadshow.
The sessions gave an ideal opportunity for students to see how maths is applied to everyday life situations and to explore maths in a hands-on environment. Students were encouraged to communicate their maths ideas and answers with other students in small teams working together. Students gained insight into problem solving, working in teams, and exploring various mathematical concepts all aligned to the Australian Curriculum.
It was a highly engaging experience which show that maths is everywhere and is important and of course that maths can be fun!
The Kindy and Year 1 classes were supported by Year 5 and 6 helpers. The photographer for the day Karyn Penney commented “I would like to say how exceptional the Year 5 and Year 6 activity leaders were. They really did an outstanding job and set a great tone for the activities”.

In August, we will be celebrating Campbell Primary’s 60 year anniversary. As we begin preparations for all of the exciting events, it’s been wonderful to connect with people who have been a part of the Campbell Community over the years. Paula Kinsman, Libby Gerner and myself are very much looking forward to meeting with Peter Jarvis, who was the principal here from 1985-1999. It will be great to hear from him how the school has changed in the last few decades!
On Friday 13th August we will be hosting a special assembly to celebrate this exciting milestone. In preparation for this event, Libby Gerner and myself are seeking stories, photographs and artefacts from Campbell Primary School and the local Campbell community from the last 60 years. If you have any items (or stories) of interest which we could borrow or photograph, please get in touch! We would love to hear from you!
If you’re somebody with a bit of creative flair, we are also on the hunt for a graphic designer who can help us out. Our hope is that a graphic designer will donate their time and skills to create a simple commemorative logo, celebrating Campbell’s 60 years. This logo will appear on a banner, commemorative items and other communications sent out to the community.

Due to the ongoing building site at Campbell Primary School and Campbell Village, parking has become somewhat of a premium. This however, does not entitle people to park illegally.
Please be aware, Parking Inspectors regularly patrol the school surrounds and are issuing parking fines for illegal parking.
No parking areas include:
along Vasey Crescent from the BER carpark entrance to the corner of Chauvel is now No Parking; and
the area behind the library (near the dumpsters) is No Parking, due to trucks requiring constant access to this area.
Where possible, please do not park in the staff car park. Lendlease have very kindly sealed the overflow carpark to be more usable for our school community. Please use the overflow carpark where possible.
