Dear Families,
What an amazing fortnight of learning and activity! It has been lovely to watch the preschool classes visit our kindergarten spaces and for kindergarten to join the preschool for reading times. Today we had our STEM day which welcomed many local providers into the school to deliver quality STEM based learning experiences. In the next newsletter we will provide a more detailed follow up piece from the day which acknowledges the many great organisations who joined us today.
We are hoping in 2021 that we will be able to run this great event as it was originally intended, and host a STEM evening where our teachers, students and families can all come together for a community night full of fun, excitement and investigation.
ACT Public Education Awards
Congratulations must go to Karyn Heitmann and Cathy Dee for their recent nominations in the 2020 ACT Public Education Awards: Celebrating Excellence, in the categories of Education Support Person of the Year and Primary Teacher of the Year. These nominations acknowledge the outstanding contribution they have made to public education in the ACT and we are very excited to have two staff members acknowledged this year.
World Teachers’ Day
Last week we celebrated our amazing teachers and their contributions to Public Education. I feel very privileged to work with an incredible group of Educators who work tirelessly to deliver quality learning outcomes for all their students even in these unusual times. I would also like to thank the many parents who sent in emails of gratitude and recognition for the contributions our teachers make every day. A special thank you to the P&C for their exceptionally generous contribution towards putting on a staff lunch on this day. It was very well received and enabled the school to support a local Campbell business.
Class placements
Letters have been sent home to identify children that your child works well with so that we can endeavour to ensure every child has a friendly face in their class for 2021. However, classroom teachers and the executive team also have input into the class configurations and bring to the decision their knowledge of how children interact in the classroom and the learning context.
When completing the form please identify as many children as possible with the understanding that they may not receive their first choice. Class configurations and dynamics are very challenging, and we appreciate your support in this area.
Campbell Carpark safety
There have been several complaints from families regarding where some of our community are parking and driving.
- Please be aware that no one should be driving and parking behind the preschool area unless accessing the disability carpark
- Our carpark should not be used by our community as a whole day carpark unless you are remaining on the school site. We have limited spaces and they need to be available for people accessing the school
- Please remember children can be unpredictable and to always be hyper vigilant and reduce your speed in our carparks
Maths Olympiad
Our year 5 and 6 students who participate in mathematics enrichment with Ms Sydney will receive their 2020 Intra-School Olympiads certificates on Monday 9th November during Yumma. Unfortunately, due to Covid restrictions we cannot have families attend our Yumma. We will take photographs of the recipients and send them home.
Individual Learning Plans (ILP) and Personal Learning Plans (PLP) Parent/Carer Meetings
To support student transition in preparation for 2021 we will be hosting parent/carer ILP, PLP meetings over week 8 (30/11-4/12/2020). Parents will be contacted directly with information regarding their meeting.
Canteen Day - Friday 6th November
Canteen Day - 6 November 2020
The daily efforts of our canteen staff and the many volunteers who support our students and our school have been tremendous this year.
We should remember to say please and thank you every day, but on Canteen Day, Friday 6 November, we will say a very special thank you to this wonderful team. Our canteen provides a great service to fuel our students study and play.
We don’t take their hard work for granted, so thank you and Happy Canteen Day!

Campbell Primary School will be celebrating Children’s Week in week 6 (16th – 20th November). Children's Week celebrates the right of children to enjoy childhood. During this week we will be offering special activities during lunch breaks and we will conclude the week with Silly Socks Day. Please see below for a breakdown of events. Spring SC-ORE Orienteering Term 4
After the cancellation of SC-ORE earlier in the year, all of the students who had registered for that event were ready and rearing to GO for this season’s 4 week challenge.
Thirty-one students from Years 3 to 6 have dragged themselves and their drivers (dedicated parents, neighbours and grandparents) out of bed early on Thursday mornings for the past 2 weeks, and have made their way to Lake Ginninderra for a 7.45am start. The 31 students are as follows:
Campbell Teams:
A: Sofia K, Charlotte W, combined with an Aranda student (still space for another CPS boy!)
B: Sophie O, Euan J, Sam C, Arabella G
C: Gretchen C, Malaki C, Meelis A, Sienna K
D: Violet L, Ethan F, James H (and there is space for one more girl if anyone is still keen!)
E: Violet G, Kai K, Oliver L, Ollie P
F: Claudia KH, Olivia A, Ella M, Georgia B
G: Matilda S, Jiyan A, Claire Y (and there is space for one more boy!)
H: Harriet R, Ayesha S, Jacqui H (and space for either boy or girl here)
I: Caitlin Mc, Rosie A, Emery S, Sabrina FV

With 2 weeks to go, the Campbell teams have shown that they are dedicated and enthusiastic orienteers, and it is obvious that their skills and accuracy are improving rapidly. Many of our students are orienteering for the first time!
Although SC-ORE is all about having a great time outdoors with a map and some fast thinking, we are so pleased to report that some of our teams are currently holding 6th, 7th and 8th place. Well done Campbell!
The next 2 weeks’ events will be held at Black Mountain Peninsula.
We wish our 9 teams all the best!
