Student-Centred Improvement Visits
This week we have hosted the Student-Centred Improvement panel. The panel has worked with staff, the leadership team, the community, and students to support the construction of a new strategic plan.
I wanted to take this opportunity to say thank you to the staff at Campbell Primary School, who throughout our preparation and journey have been incredibly reflective and curious about the ways our practices are student-centred. It is such a privilege to work collaboratively with a team of professionals who are so invested in school improvement.
I also want to thank our School Board Chair, Phillipa Leggo, and P&C President, Harriet Sutton, who worked with the community to facilitate and promote events where the panel was able to meet some of our parents/carers. These events were an opportunity for the final report to be reflective of our community’s priorities.
I look forward to sharing the new strategic plan with the community at the end of this term.
Celebrating our Students
I am very excited to share with our community that Scarlett B (Year 5) recently won 2nd place in the Candid Canberra competition. Her photo was of their cat, Cassie, who looks as though she is deep in thought. Cassie sadly passed away two months ago. The image is now a beautiful momento of a much-loved family pet.
Well done Scarlett!
.New Electronic Community Sign
Families will notice that the community sign on Chauvel Street has been cordoned off. Next week, the Directorate’s School Facility Management team will replace the old board with an LED school sign. The installation should only take about a week. Please see below a photo of the design.
I cannot believe next week marks the mid-week of the term. Time is flying! I hope all families have a restful long weekend.
Take care,
Rostrum Public Speaking Competition
On Monday of this week I was privileged to be a judge on the panel for the CPS Rostrum Public Speaking Competition final! The standard of speeches was particularly high this year, with each one of the students who made the final presenting well researched and rehearsed speeches that showed incredible effort.
After much deliberation and consideration, the panel of judges decided that Jessica Wing’s speech, themed ‘Choir’, which cleverly used the concept of choir as an analogy of gender inequality, was to be our school’s winner for 2024. Makensie Burney’s speech on ‘Bad Advice’ was the runner up.
Judging was an immense task, as each of the speeches was delivered to a very high standard. One teacher commented that they were collectively the best that they have seen at Campbell Primary School! We could have confidently sent any of our finalists onto the quarter-final knowing that they would have done us all very proud. Big congratulations to all students who participated, you should all be immensely proud of yourselves!

Preschool Outdoor Environment
We are very excited to be commencing work with Ben from Playgrounded on Tuesday 11th June, for our preschool outdoor environment improvement project. Work will commence whilst preschool is in operation, which should be very exciting for the preschoolers to observe! Our intention for this work is to rejuvenate the existing environment with beautiful natural spaces that invite open-ended play and creativity.
Below is a plan of what we can expect to see in preschool in coming weeks.

- Community Building: It's a great way for parents and community members to connect and socialise in a welcoming environment.
- Supporting Year 6 Leadership Initiatives: Funds raised will support the ongoing development of the ‘Coffee and Crumbs’ initiative, student-led projects, and other initiatives that enhance our school programs.

Do you constantly have annoying leaves everywhere and want to get rid of them?
Well, we have the solution for you - the new leaf pot.
Every year around autumn there are so many leaves everywhere. You can now solve your problem and donate the leaves because, in case you didn't know, we are going to turn your leaves into something great!
Leaf pots are designed to hold up to 800 litres of leaves. The big thing is that if we moisten the leaves in the pot then it will create a liquid we can then put into our gardens and worm bins.
So you can be a superhero for our environment!
Do you want to be a superhero? Lots of people want to be a superhero, but why should you be one? Is it because you can save our environment? You will also be helping our worms improve our earth.
Remember: never give up on being a superhero!

Caring Committee
For security reasons, during the working week, the school buildings are locked from 3:30pm through till 8:30am the following day.
Access outside of these hours can be facilitated only if you have an pre-arranged appointment with a staff member.
The school playground can be accessed via the car park on Vasey Crescent, removing the need to walk through the school building.
Preschool to Kindergarten enrolments for 2025
Preschoolers will be automatically enrolled into Kindergarten for the following year where they attend preschool at their local Priority Enrolment Area (PEA) primary school or an Early Childhood School.
Campbell Primary School's PEA accommodates families who reside in Campbell, Duntroon, Pialligo, Russell, part of Majura and Parkes.
Students attending preschool outside their Priority Enrolment Area (PEA) will need to submit a new enrolment application for Kindergarten in the following year, which will be assessed under enrolment criteria. Please check with your current school if you are unsure what to do.
Regardless of where you attend preschool, you are guaranteed a Kindergarten place at your PEA school.
Online safety tips for families
The Online Safety (eSafety) Education team has developed a set of top tips to raise awareness about eSafety for sharing with your school community. These tips can be shared through your school newsletter and/or on your social media platforms. These online safety tips will be available to share with your families every fortnight.
If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to the eSafety team at: EDUesafety@act.gov.au.
Help fight the spread of illness
With winter around the corner, one of the best ways to help protect you and your family is to get the flu vaccine. It’s important to vaccinate your child as they’re at a higher risk of serious complications if they get sick and are more likely to spread it to others.
Help fight the spread of illness by staying home if you’re sick and wash your hands regularly. Please read the Winter Wellness flyer (465 kb PDF) from ACT Health or visit ACT Health Influenza (Flu) page for more information.
