Term 2 Sporting Schools Wrap-Up
Week 8 has seen the final sessions of our 4 week sporting schools program delivered thanks to a successful grant from the Australian Governments’ $320 million Sporting Schools Initiative. Kindergarten and Year 1 have thrived during their month of gymnastics sessions delivered by coaches Chris and Adam from Canberra City Gymnastics Club (CCGC). The students spun, rolled, stretched, jumped and balanced their way through a range of new skills and gross motor movement and had fantastic fun to boot. We wanted to thank the CCGC team and especially Chris and Adam for such a great program delivered for a third straight year. If any families would like further information about other programs offered at CCGC you can find it here: http://canberracity.gymnastics.org.au/
While the junior students were busy learning indoors our intrepid senior crew from Year 5 and 6 were braving the icy conditions outdoors to further their AFL skill which culminated yesterday with modified game play to showcase how much they had learned. All four classes really took to the sessions and made the most of the opportunity to try something new. The skills on show were amazing as was the teamwork, communication and comradery (even a smidge of competitiveness!). Feedback from coaches Ken and Bryn and the team from AFL Canberra was very positive and they are keen to come back again in the future. We can’t wait to see if there are any budding GWS Academy contenders in our midst!
