Where is the School Ventilation Plan?

The ACT Education Directorate has loaded our ventilation plan to our website.  It is available under the ‘COVID-19 Safety at our school’ tab.

What do I do if I need to collect my child during the school day?

If you need to collect your child from school early (e.g. for an appointment), please phone the front office (6142 3580). They will arrange for your child to be waiting in the front foyer. When you arrive, please wait at the external glass door so your child and the front office staff can see that you have arrived. The admin staff will sign your child out for the day and your child will come outside to meet you.

What do I do if my child is late for school?

Please phone the front office when you arrive and wait at the external glass doors. The admin staff will open the doors, sign your child in and they will be sent to their classroom.

Is walking to and from school encouraged?

Yes please! We understand the frustration and complexity of the limited parking around schools.  We encourage all families who can walk, ride or catch a bus to please do so.  This will help to reduce the congestion of pick up.

Where do I drop my child off in the morning?

Will someone be at the  front of the school to help if my child is anxious at drop off?

Ms Kinsman, Ms Minehan and Stanley will be available to greet the little ones in the morning.  There will also be staff at the back of the school to support the older children coming into school.

Where can I collect my child(ren) at pick up time?

Preschool: Children can be collected from the preschool gate from 2.45pm.

Kindergarten: Children can be collected from the front of the school from 2.45pm.  This is the collection point regardless of if you are walking, riding, or arriving by car (please drive into the area commonly known  as the ‘kiss and drop bay’)

Year 1: Children can be collected from the front of the school from 3.00pm. This is the collection point regardless of if you are walking, riding or arriving by car (please drive into the loading bay).

Classroom teachers will supervise the children until they are collected by their responsible person.  Please remember to maintain appropriate social distance during collection.

Years 2- 6:  Pick from 3.00pm Families with more than one child can still arrange to collect their children from a pre-arranged collection point, as has been done in the past. The key change is that children are dismissed from an outdoor location rather than their classroom, and that children cannot walk back through the internal buildings once they have exited.

We have designated dismissal points for each cohort to minimise opportunities for children of different year levels to mingle, as per directions from ACT Health. However, once your child is dismissed (for years 2 -6), they can collect their bike, walk straight home or walk to meet their family members at another pre-arranged point.  (we recommend a spot on the oval)

Can my older child pick up their sibling in Kindergarten or Year 1?

Yes, older siblings can walk up from the preschool pathway to collect a younger sibling once dismissed from class. Please refer to the map below.

Where do students attending the HUB in week 4 go?

Students in years 3, 4 and 5 attending the HUB can be dropped off in the morning at the bus stop near the ANZAC mural and will enter the school hall (ramp entrance).  In the afternoon they will be released from Friendship Hill which is the grassed area opposite the bus stop.

Where do the ‘Bus Kids’ go?

Once dismissed they move to the regular bus waiting area.

Will there be additional car parking?

Unfortunately no, which is why we are encouraging walk, ride and bus routines wherever possible. This is also why  we have staggered the pick up times for younger children (preschool and Kindergarten from 2.45pm).  While we establish new routines, additional staff will be present around the school in the afternoons to support and care for students who are waiting to be collected.

We appreciate this is challenging and will cause frustration, however, the school must follow the recommended ACT Health directions and ACT Directorate recommendations.

The dirt carpark is generally clear of preschool families from approximately 3.05pm. Families with children in older grades can park in this area AFTER 3.05pm

What will happen if it is raining?

Morning

Classroom doors will be open from 8.45am.  Children will be encouraged to go straight to their classrooms from their designated drop off point.

Afternoon

Preschool: Children are to be collected from the gate, they will wait inside until a parent arrives

Year 1: Children will wait in the Hall

Kindergarten: Children will wait in the front office foyer

Years 2- 6: Children will be dismissed from their classrooms in an orderly manner at 3pm. They will go directly outside and leave without re-entering the buildings.

Can you insist on masks?

The wearing of masks for primary students is at the discretion of the student and their parents/carer but is not recommended for children in ECECs, or P –2 children. This is because masks are unlikely to be correctly worn by very young children and may represent a choking hazard. However, if you wish for your child in years P-2 to wear a mask, that is okay.

Can I ask if my teacher is vaccinated?

No, this is a confidential matter. However, it is now mandated for all primary school staff to be vaccinated.

What will happen with BAND?

Band will be held outside.  If you would prefer your child does not participate they will not be penalised and will not lose their position for 2022.

Will end of year events happen?

We are hoping that there will be an easing of restrictions that will enable the school to continue with some of our end of year events.  We are continuing to plan and prepare for our orientations and graduation events and will keep families informed.

Have the break times changed?

Whoops!  We made a mistake with the timing.

Will you be doing remote learning for children who do not return to school?

No, classroom teachers will be returning to face-to-face teaching on their designated dates and will not be continuing remote learning.

Children in P-2 who are learning from home are encouraged to continue learning through the ACT Education Remote Learning Hub:

https://www.education.act.gov.au/schooling/learning-resource-library

We are currently collecting data on the children who will not be  returning to school in Years 3 -6 on their scheduled return dates.  Once we have these numbers finalised, we will communicate with families individually regarding how the school will support learning from home.
