Japanese News, Nihongo no nyuusu

This term is a busy one in the Japanese classroom for all year groups as we are preparing for the Japanese Assembly on Friday of Week 4. This assembly will be held on Peace Day, or Heiwa no Hi, the day that we remember the dropping of the atomic bomb on the city of Hiroshima. We are all busy folding 1000 paper cranes to present to the school for Heiwa no Hi, as they are traditionally made as a symbol of peace and longevity.

In the classroom, the students are learning to sing songs in Japanese, and will be presenting these songs at the assembly. In addition, students are learning to read and write hiragana, the Japanese phonetic syllabary.

We are of course also keeping an eye on the Olympics in Tokyo, and will be learning some action and sports words to accompany the exciting events!
