Athletics Carnival
Move over Olympians. Here comes Campbell Primary School’s super athletes! On a wet and very cold Canberra morning, students put on their coats and mustered their enthusiasm to run, jump and throw themselves into the 2021 CPS athletics carnival. Held offsite at Phillip Enclosed Oval for the very first time everyone was excited to make the most of the purpose built facilities. It was amazing to see so many students participating in every event on offer, both trying something new AND winning tonnes of points for their houses. Staff were very proud of how our CPS students represented our school yesterday, showing off not only our SCARFFF values but also our PBL values of being safe, respectful, learners.
These carnival days take a lot of people power to make them a success and we would like to acknowledge our community of parents for their contribution. We would like to particularly thank those that put their hand up to volunteer in what were very trying conditions. This was the first time in recent years that the carnival ran ahead of schedule, allowing staff to include some additional fun relays for students which were very well received. We would also like to acknowledge our canteen manager Sheree and her team of helpers for taking a special lunch offsite for the first time. The hotdogs were an extremely welcome moment of warmth in our day!
The carnival was a very big moment for our Preschool team, joining us on an excursion for the first time. They joined Kindergarten and Year 1 students for a half day of fun foundation movement activities. The following is feedback from our Preschool teachers:
Preschool enjoyed their first excursion out of Campbell Primary School yesterday. We’re not sure if they were more excited about the athletics carnival or their first bus ride together! Children enjoyed activities such as parachute, hacky sack “shot put” at bucket targets, throwing a foam-javelin and an obstacle course. Thank you to everyone involved who helped make the day such a success.
With so many race heats, so much student participation, and a truck load of house spirit, the house results, ribbon presentations and athletics team for regionals will be announced over the next few weeks. Thank you in advance for your patience.
Congratulations to all athletes on a very successful carnival.
