Positive Behaviour for Learning

Welcome back CPS Families!

It has been an amazing few weeks here at CPS with our PBL.

Our badges arrived a few weeks ago and the staff have been so excited awarding students with their first badges!

Our very first recipients were Milai and Vinash from 5E, and Olivia and Kaitlyn from 4S. Since then, many teachers have seen students stepping up their efforts in being a Safe Respectful Learner which has led to over 20 badges being awarded, so far with many more students not far off.

It is brilliant to see students wearing their badges with pride and the celebrations and support classmates give one another when someone receives a badge.

But more importantly, it is the changes in behaviour we are seeing that is the biggest reward, with students wanting to make good choices, even if it doesn’t necessarily mean they will receive a STAG. We are seeing the development of intrinsically motivated behaviour choices.

To celebrate, I thought I’d add a few photos of some of our proud students!

Social Emotional Learning as part of out PBL

As you may recall from week 2’s eNewsletter, we have been focusing on Personal Strengths in SEL.

In each year group, students have been learning about the difference between talents and personal traits. We have been discussing various positive characteristics, increasing our vocabulary, learning their definitions, stating characteristics we admire in others as well as where we can see them in action at school. To finish off this unit, students will identify their own personal strengths.

So, what can you do at home to support this?

Simply talking to your child/ren about the personal strengths you admire in them. Acknowledge when they use those strengths and how it’s these traits which make them, them.

You can also discuss personal strengths you discover in characters in books, movies etc as well as other people in your lives.

It is sometimes hard for us to see the positives in ourselves and much easier to see them in others. Help your child/ren to feel confident and own their positive strengths and feel proud of the person they are.

Next week I will share some work to celebrate the end of our unit on Personal Strengths.
