Principals message

Dear Families,

Did you know that Campbell Primary School is a member of the Future School Alliance?

In preparation for leading transformational change as Campbell Primary School shifts from traditional learning spaces to innovative and dynamic learning communities, CPS school leaders have been engaging in a series of professional learning modules (The Momentum Series) designed to support educators to lead cultural change through an innovative and adaptive framework.  As we progress in our learning and understandings, we continually reflect on the 8 school transformation principles developed by FSA based on evidence, case studies and effective practice.

It is extremely exciting to embark on this journey of reflection, research, new learning and innovation with a collection of like-minded educators across Australia and internationally.  As we engage deeply in this process, we look forward to working in collaboration with our community to share, explore, develop and deliver quality learning outcomes for all students.

Director General – Katy Haire Visit on 6th August

We were very excited to host the Director General, Katy Haire. Our year 6 school leaders did an incredible job welcoming Katy, taking her on a tour of our school as well as sharing with her all the exciting work we covered throughout Appreciation Week last term. During the tour Katy was shown our community pom poms and the students described how returning to face-to-face teaching has given us all an insight into the importance of the school community and how important it is to celebrate all the positive things during this challenging time. Katy was able to engage in conversations with the teachers, support staff and students across the school.

In this picture are our highly engaged Student Leaders (Amelia, Harisen, Billie and Henry).  During their time with Katy they presented the three main areas of focus our student parliament will be addressing in semester 2:

  1. Environment: Students will explore and trial initiatives aimed at improving the school’s environment. This may include recycling, waste reduction and reducing the school’s carbon footprint.
  2. Fundraising: Students will plan, advertise and implement fundraisers to support local and national charities.
  3. Health and wellbeing: Students will explore, and trial initiatives aimed at improving the health and wellbeing of students, staff and families. This may include physical, emotional and social wellbeing measures.

A shoutout to the P&C!

Last night was our first P&C meeting for the term and it was wonderful to have people engage both onsite (with social distancing) and via an online Zoom connection.  We would like to acknowledge the work and support from the Campbell Primary School P&C and express our appreciation for their continued collaborative approach to providing a quality learning environment for our students.  The P&C, in support of our strategic plan, allocated funding towards purchasing extensive mathematical resources for every classroom from Kindergarten to Year 6 and STEM resources to our preschool. We are very excited and grateful and we cannot wait to share photographs of the students engaging in their learning utilising the new equipment!

School Satisfaction and Climate Survey: your feedback can make a difference

Listening to parents, staff and students is one of the most important things that schools can do. As part of our continuous effort to improve ACT schools, each year all parents, school staff and students in Years 4 to 6 are invited to give feedback through the School Satisfaction & Climate Survey.  The 2020 survey is available online from 10th to 31st August. This is your opportunity to have a say about your satisfaction with public education. Learn more about the survey on the Education website.  All families will receive an individual email for each child that attends the school. If you have not received communication inviting you to participate, please contact the school.  We are very eager to hear the voice of EVERY family and encourage everyone to complete the survey.  Don’t forget to send in your completion slip once the survey has been completed so your child can receive their special pencil!!!!

Pick up and Drop off

Thank you to all the families who continue to adhere to our social distancing rules and our kiss and drop/pick up routines currently in place. Your support is greatly appreciated.

We would like to remind our community that we have an amazing before and after school care facility (CASAC and clubs) available for families who require extended morning/afternoon supervision.  Staff have noticed and we have had a few community concerns regarding how early some children are being dropped off at school (7:45am).  Please be aware that unless an arrangement is in place with the school (e.g. early morning band, bus schedule limitations) students should not be arriving at school before 8:30am.  In addition, children should be collected promptly after 3:00pm and no later than 3:30pm in the afternoon.  We do understand that occasionally unexpected events happen and encourage any parent, who is going to be delayed, to contact the school so that we can support your child while they wait.  If commitments require your child to have regular supervision outside of the above times, please contact CASAC to make a booking. Thank you for supporting the school in keeping our children safe and supervised.

Lost property

The mountain is growing!  This week we will return as many labelled jumpers, jackets and hats to their owners as possible.  Next week we will set up tables outside for parents to have a look for any missing items.  Following this, any left-over items will either be disposed of or donated to charity.
