Campbell Primary School was extremely proud to send our four school captains to the Battle for Australia Commemorative Ceremony at the Australian War Memorial.
Evaan, Makensie, Arabella, and Jess represented our school alongside twelve other Canberra schools on the first sunny day of spring, September 4th. The ceremony recognized the courage and sacrifice of those who fought in the many battles between 1942 and 1945.
As the Defence School Mentor, I was incredibly proud of our four captains, who were respectful, professional, and grateful to be invited to this important event.
All four students were also fortunate to spend time with a very special veteran who had just turned 104 years old. Hearing her stories was a deeply emotional experience, and I know Evaan, Makensie, Arabell, and Jess will remember it with great gratitude.
A key message from the service was the importance of the younger generation remembering the sacrifices made by everyday Australians all those years ago. The admiration shown for the younger generation underscored this crucial point.
