Principal's Report

Student-Centered Improvement Visits (SCIV) Term 2, Week 4

In previous years, schools within the ACT Education Directorate would have a formalised review completed every five years. The review and its findings would help create the school’s five-year strategic plan. Last year the Directorate created a principal consultative group that worked together, creating a new review framework for school improvement. Campbell Primary is due for its review this year and will be utilisng the new framework and processes.

The Student-Centred Improvement Framework (the Framework) places students at the centre of school improvement cycles, answering what works for whom, under what circumstances and why. This is achieved through self-evaluative internal review led by effective and targeted use of data and spirals of inquiry, cross system collaboration, strategic alignment and complementary external review.

Under the Framework, the improvement process is cyclical and adjustable. Implementing, embedding and sustaining improvement consists of:

  • Ongoing inquiry: Ongoing cycles of inquiry, conducted regularly (eg, every term) and homing in on dimensions and elements requiring investigation, and uplift (informed by evidence).
  • Regular self-evaluation: Supplemented and supported by school improvement visits.
  • Multi-year: An external review (approximately once every four years).

Over the next couple of weeks, the leadership team is gathering evidence to submit against the three domains of: Learning, Leading, and Wellbeing. This evidence will be sourced from our teachers, our students and the community.

In Week 4 of next term, our review team will be on site. The external review will typically take place over two days (though this may be extended to three depending on the size and complexity of the setting). The structure of the review will be determined by the pre-review visit, with a focus on ascertaining the school's strengths, opportunities for improvement, and evidence of impact. The Review Team will produce a report on the outcome of the review. Following the external review, a post-review visit will be scheduled.

We will keep all families informed and up-to-date with this exciting new progress and if families have any questions please contact me.

If your child/ren attended camp this week, we hope that they had a wonderful time and haven't returned too exhausted. A very big thank you to Ms Aya, Ms J, Ms Thane, Ms Jones and Mr DK for attending and supporting our students during their time away - without your support there would be no camp.

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.

Take care
