Principal's message

Kinsman_Paula

Dear Families and Carers,

What a wonderful beginning to week 4 with the return of our lovely P-2 students.  It has been great to see that most children have returned to face to face teaching and have quickly settled back into their classroom schedules and activities.  Online learning will continue for those unable to return to school according to the schedule, however, this will look differently as classroom teachers return to face to face teaching.

Please see below for the dates of our staggered returns.

  • Monday, 18 May Return of Preschool, Kindergarten and Year 1/ 2 students and those who are attending Safe and Supervised School Sites
  • Monday, 25 May Return of Year 3/4
  • Tuesday, 2 June Return of Year 5/6

Please remember that social distancing protocols will continue to be in place during drop off and pick up routines. Please read below the processes in place for students.

Drop off/Pick up processes for Preschool

  • Dolphins: Drop off and pick up using the ramped entrance at the back of our preschool
  • Sea Turtles and Whales: Drop off and pick up at the external side gate

We ask parent/carers to line up in their assigned areas with their child/ren and wait for one of our learning support workers to collect your child. To help with transitions and minimise congestion during the afternoons, pickups will commence from 2:45pm.

Drop off/Pick up processes for Kindergarten

We ask that families enter the school grounds from the back of the school to meet their child’s contact teacher.

  • The Kindergarten teachers will have assigned areas in-between the artificial grass (next to the junior playground) and senior playground.
  • There will be a teacher supervising from 8:45am.  We ask parents to leave school premises immediately after drop off.
  • Your child’s contact teacher will be in their assigned area for afternoon collection.  Once families have collected their child/ren, we ask that you exit the school grounds immediately.

Drop off/Pick up processes for Years 1-6

Families from Years 1- 6 are required to do a kiss and drop off scenario with students moving directly to the senior quad.

  • Year 1-2 students are encouraged to enter the school through the front office. There will be a supervising teacher in the carpark to assist with this transition.
  • Years 3-6 students can use any other entry point, including the oval or the carpark on Vasey Crescent.
  • The senior quad will be supervised from 8:45am and classroom teachers will collect their classes from the senior quad at the 9am bell.
  • Adults are asked to adhere to social distancing protocols and refrain from entering the building and senior quad area unless attending a scheduled appointment or delivering medication.
  • In preparation for your child’s return to school we ask families to pre-organise a meeting point for afternoon pickups which adheres to social distancing rules (e.g meeting on the oval, futsal court, basketball court, carpark).  Please do not wait outside of the classrooms on the decks or in the corridors.
  • Please exit school grounds immediately after collection.
  • Students need to return any ICT items borrowed on the day they return to school. Students need to take them to their classroom for further directions.

We thank all families for their support and co-operation during this time. It feels very unusual not to be able to welcome and encourage parent connections at drop offs and pick up. We look forward to the time when we can be encouraging social connections and, in the meantime, please remember we are only a phone call or email away!

Thank you to the P&C

I would like to acknowledge the P&C for their contribution to the new preschool playground. The improvements desired for the project exceeded the allocated funding through the ACT Education Directorate.  The P&C generously contributed funds and worked in collaboration with the school and ACT Education Directorate to enable the completion of the entire upgrade. The children are loving the new playground and we are very grateful to the P&C for their support in completing this project.

Last week the P&C held their annual general meeting (AGM) sharing their yearly reports and progress as well as thanking exiting executive member while voting in new members to take on leadership roles in the committee.  I would like to thank Tristan Kemp, Nina Pregellio, Cherie Fisher, Julie Vey, Emma Lybrand, Leigha Kimmorley, Liz Hotshilt and Pip d'Ews Thomson for their contributions to the Campbell Primary School community and for the continuous support throughout 2019 and 2020.  The P&C is an excellent opportunity to be involved in the school and meet new people. I encourage all families to consider attending a meeting, everyone is welcomed and how people choose to contribute can be as big or small as is manageable for families.

I would also like to extend a warm welcome to our new and returning members of the P&C.  I look forward to working with you on new and innovative ways to build community spirit and continued collaboration.

    • Natasha Burney – President
    • Sarah Wilcox – Vice President
    • Brenda Sebastian – Treasurer
    • Julie Vey – Secretary
    • Emma Lybrand – CASAC Convenor
    • Anna Woodhouse – Canteen Convenor
    • Liz Hotschilt – Uniform Convenor

Congratulations Mrs Cheater!

In exciting news, the wonderful Mrs Kylie Cheater welcomed a beautiful baby boy (Jett) to their family on 7 May.

Kylie is an exceptional classroom teacher who has positively contributed to the culture and academic richness of the programs at Campbell Primary School.  Kylie fosters and develops strong interpersonal relationships with her students and families and is always responsive in meeting the needs of her students.  Her expertise while on maternity leave will be sorely missed and we are looking forward to when she returns. We have been very fortunate to welcome Helen Scott to our preschool team; Helen brings to the position a wealth of experience and eagerness to deliver quality educational outcomes to her students.
