Deputy Principal's Report

Floriade

Last week we enjoyed our annual whole-school trip to Floriade, where students from Preschool to Year 6 enjoyed seeing the beautiful grounds of Commonwealth Park, as well as enjoy a performance from our Years 5 and 6 bands and junior choir. Taking over 300 children to Floriade is no small feat, and thanks to everyone’s contributions the day went incredibly smoothly! We had over 35 family volunteers, which was a huge help on the day and a wonderful demonstration of how supportive the Campbell Primary School community is! Thank you to all of the volunteers and staff who made the day a success, and big congratulations to our band and choir performers!

End of Year Student Reports

Later this term, families will receive a summative report on their child/ren’s academic performance throughout Semester 2. Preschool families will receive their reports on Wednesday 6 December (on the same day as the preschool graduation) and K-6 families will receive their reports on Thursday 7 December. Families are welcome to request an interview during Week 10 to discuss their child’s progress.

Each year, we reflect on how we communicate with families both formally and informally. In 2024, we are looking at the following structure for formal reporting on academic progress and learning:

Term 1

  • Getting to know you interviews in Week 3

Term 2

  • Written report with comments in Week 10
  • Interviews available upon request

Term 3

  • Parent-Teacher meetings

Term 4

  • Written report with comments in Week 9
  • Interviews available upon request

Student Wellbeing and Safety

This week we have had visits from Kenny Koala in Kindy and Menslink in Year 5/6. Both visits have sent a clear message about the importance of wellbeing and safety for our children. Both Kenny Koala and Menslink have suggested that the following information be shared with families, as a resource to support keeping our children safe and mentally well.

Kenny Koala suggested families explore ‘Think U Know’, which is all about keeping children safe online. https://www.thinkuknow.org.au/resources-tab/parents-and-carers

End of year exams are approaching, maybe your young guy is prepping for Highschool, College or Uni.  Any of these changes can be significant stressors … and we are here to help!

If your young guy is having a hard time, is anxious, uncertain or fearful of their future and could really use someone to talk to, get in touch! Our wait times are relatively low so we're ready to help when your young guy needs it. We provide a welcoming and supportive environment for young guys to share their concerns and worries and we provide tips and strategies to get them through those tough times that many of them are facing right now.

Menslink Counselling sessions are completely confidential and are available to any young guy aged 10-25.  There are no fees or charges, and no limits to the number of sessions. You don't need a mental health plan and we are available during school terms and school holidays.

Do you think your young guy would really benefit from a counselling session? If so, have a chat with them and head to www.menslink.org.au, hit the 'Get Help' button, fill in the form and we'll get back to you, generally the same or next business day.

If you need more info on how to have that chat with them, just email info@menslink.org.au or call 6287 2226 and we will send you some information.

Menslink has provided free counselling to young guys throughout the Canberra region for 20+ years.
