Year 3 and 4 Boys Represent Campbell at the Northside Jamie Pearlman Cup

On Thursday 3 August, a very spirited group of ten Campbell Primary students made their way to Belconnen Basketball Stadium to compete for the first time in the Jamie Pearlman Cup. With varying levels of experience in the sport and from different grades and classes, the boys came together as a team in a very impressive way, led from the front by team captain Ollie J. From the start, the boys demonstrated a fantastic attitude and approach to the games and were rewarded with early wins against Ainslie and Holy Spirit. Unfortunately, the boys were beaten in their final game against a very strong Macgregor team, missing out on a semi final berth by a single point! We are incredibly proud of the team.

Campbell Primary would like to commend not just the team who travelled for the carnival, but each and every student who signed up and participated in the try outs. They made the selection process very difficult in the best way, and we wish we could have taken all of them! A huge shout out to “Coach” Jones for taking on the team for this fantastic event. As always these things don’t happen without our community and we would like to thank the parents who helped out with bench duties for the day and all the parents who came along to support.

These events, besides just making memories, have a flow on effect here at school and we are excited to see so many students playing basketball during recess and lunch – hopefully it’s happening at home as well! Sport has a well-known physical and health benefit but can also promote teamwork, communication, leadership, connection and positive mental health. If your child has been inspired you can find details of community competitions and holiday clinics at the Basketball ACT website.

Trials for the Sue Geh Cup on Wednesday 13 September (Year 3 and 4 girls) are underway and again we have awesome interest levels and lots of enthusiasm!
