ANZAC Assembly

On Friday 28 April Campbell Primary School paused to remember and reflect on the service and sacrifice of Australian Defence Force members both past and present. It was wonderful to finally be able to have a full school and our families for this very special assembly after such a long time.

It was a beautiful and moving commemoration, led by our very capable school captains and supported by just a few members of our very large community of ADF families. Featuring an extremely polished catafalque party from the Australian Federation Guard and supported by bugler Musician Ryan Koroknai from the RMC Band, our assembly format closely followed that of a full dawn service, allowing students to learn about the history, customs and traditions of ANZAC Day.

We wanted to extend a very special thankyou to our guest speakers; Major Timothy Wildin who gave an amazing and very relatable keynote address, Sergeant Virginia Herschell along with daughter Cora who did a beautiful job of delivering The Ode, and Mr Ryan Beevor along with daughter Charlotte, whose recitation of the very moving poem “ANZAC Day” by D. Hunter brought a tear to the eye. Appreciation also goes to the junior choir led by Ms Dee who worked incredibly hard on their song “Blowing in the Wind” by Bob Dylan.

Finally, I wanted to pay tribute to the respect shown by our entire student body throughout the serious and sombre assembly and especially during the minute of silence. They are the keepers of the future of our traditions of ANZAC Day; I am confident our commitment to always “Remember Them” is in good hands.
