Wow, Week 6 already!  The term is flying by. We have had a wonderful start to the year, and a fantastic return to Defence Club for students in Years 1-6. A reminder for all students that Defence Club runs on Wednesday for Year 1 and 2, Thursday for Year 3, and Friday for Years 4-6 in the BER/CASAC building. Students who are new to CPS in 2023 may bring a buddy of their choosing. Reminders are posted to the class morning notices each day. Kindergarten Defence Club will start next term.

We have had a wonderful invitation from the Australian War Memorial for children from ADF families to enter a “Name the Crane” and colouring competition. Many students have already brought the sheet home but if not please see me as soon as possible or there is a digital copy here. Entries are due back to me by 14 March - get those creative juices rolling! There are some great prizes.

Have you subscribed yet to receive the Soldier On and DMFS newsletters? They are a great source of information about both Defence and Veteran opportunities in our area as well as upcoming community events. You can email them at getsupport@soldieron.org.au and  DMFS.Canberra@defence.gov.au to request to be added to the mailing list. It’s a massive year for Legacy as well, as it celebrates 100 years of service. To find out more about Legacy head to the website here.

For those new to Canberra on posting this year, just a quick reminder you can apply for the Education Assistance Scheme offered by DMFS. This covers tutoring reimbursement where there may be a demonstrated benefit to offset any educational gaps related to the relocation. You can find an information sheet about the scheme here. Please feel free to contact me at any time for support with the application process or with any questions. Classroom teachers are all also familiar with the scheme.

I am at CPS full time from 9am until 4pm and can usually be found either in the playground, front office or supporting within classrooms. I am always happy to meet with parents to answer any questions you may have; please check in with the front office and they will locate me for you. I am also happy to attend meetings with you if you feel I could be of help; please let the teacher or executive that you are meeting with know if you would like me there. I am also available via email at any time Karyn.heitmann@ed.act.edu.au
