Principal's Report

Dear families,

Congratulations to all students who participated in the swimming carnival.  It was a day filled with fun, friendship, and positive team spirit!  The races were intense and certainly showcased many of our talented swimmers.  Our novelty events were a huge success and enabled all our children to have a positive experience in the pool.

As a school community we are always extremely grateful for our parent volunteers!  Thank you for your support and assistance in helping the children to have an amazing day and remain safe near the water.

We are sure we sent home many tired children on Thursday night!

School Improvement

Campbell Primary School is committed to focusing on the learning of all our students in a community-based model. Teachers in our school are part of a collaborative team, where members work interdependently towards common goals for which every member is mutually accountable.

Campbell Primary School’s current School Strategic Plan (2020-2024) has two strategic priorities:

Priority 1: Increase growth in student performance in numeracy across all year levels

  • Strategies
  • Embed a consistent approach to programming for mathematics K-6, incorporating the scope and sequence
  • Refine and streamline explicit instruction and opportunities around ‘numeracy’ and problem-solving skills
  • Investigate options for a summative assessment to be trialled in K-2
  • Leadership:  Monitor teaching and learning programs by providing timely and personalised feedback
  • Routinely share Units of Inquiry, sharing elements that authentically integrate mathematics
  • Engage with Academy of Future Skills for teacher mentoring and support, incorporating mathematics within the STEM specialists’

Priority 2: Increase growth in student performance in writing across all year levels

  • Strategies
  • Embed clear ‘non-negotiables,’ which are incorporated into the Teaching and Learning Planner and visited routinely throughout each term
  • 1A  Consistent use of individual student writing goals P-6
  • 1B Consistent use of 1:1 student conferencing K-6
  • Embed a consistent approach to programming for writing P-2, utilising the scope and sequence and continue developing the year 3-6 S&S
  • Leadership:  Monitoring teaching and learning programs providing timely and personalised feedback
  • Routinely share Units of Inquiry sharing elements that authentically integrate writing

The goal of the school’s strategic plan is to improve the learning outcomes of all students. Throughout the year the newsletter will be one of the avenues used to keep you informed of our strategic directions and to report our progress.

2023 Voluntary Contribution

Each year our school, together with other public schools in the ACT, asks our families to make a voluntary contribution to supplement our school’s operating budget.

  • Your contribution goes directly to providing additional resources that will benefit the learning and development of all our students.  Funds received this year will support the school in providing:
STEM resources: Plastic beakers, funnels and measuring cylinders, Pasco sensors, microbits, Makey Makey, Sphero Indi and STELR kits
  • PE and sports equipment: shade covers, classroom/playground sport tubs, playground maintenance
  • Art and music resources: xylophones, specialist art supplies

Contributions for 2023 are:

  • Voluntary Contribution P-6 $130 per child – which provides for additional teaching and learning resources across the school
  • $260 for two or more children

Families can choose how they wish the school to use their contribution by selecting one of the following:

  • 100% to be used flexibly by the school (for those items listed above)
  • 50% to be used flexibly and 50% library trust fund
  • 100% to the library trust fund (to buy items that must remain in the library and is tax deductible)

We recognise the financial circumstances of our families are all different and every effort has been made to keep these amounts low.  We understand if this contribution is not affordable for you and appreciate any amount you contribute.  If your financial situation allows, you may choose to contribute more than this amount for which the school would be most grateful.

We encourage you to make your contributions by the end of Term 1 2023 if possible.  It is also possible to make your payment in instalments by contacting our front office on 6142 3580.

Thank you for your continuing financial support to enhance the learning experience for all our students at Campbell Primary School.

The hard copy has been sent home with your child this week with the payment information.

Thank you to those 4.9% of our Preschool families and 7% of our Kindergarten to Year 6 families who have already made their voluntary contribution to the school.

Kind regards,

Paula Kinsman
