Principal's report

2022 Satisfaction Survey Results

In term 2, our community (staff, Years 4-6 students and parent/carers) completed the 2022 Satisfaction Survey. We had 126 families, 27 staff members and 129 students take part.  The results from the Survey are critical in driving our school improvement plans. During staff meetings, our staff unpacked our results to help create our school’s 2022 Impact Report (a document which is published on the school’s website) and our 2023 Annual Plan. We appreciate all the efforts of the families who were able to contribute.

Semester 2 Summative Report

The Education Directorate has again made the decision that student academic reports will be provided with an overall A-E grade (Year 1-6), and an assessment of achievement standard statements on a 5-point scale. Reports will not include detailed teacher comments.

This strategy supports schools to prioritise teaching and learning as we continue to manage workload pressures due to COVID-19 and other illness.  Our teachers will continue communicating directly with families about student learning and you are encouraged to speak with your child’s teacher if you have any questions about their progress.

Kindergarten to Year 6 families will receive their child’s report on the 5th December. Our Preschool families can expect to receive their child’s Summary of Learning on the 7th December at the Preschool Graduation.

Unit of Inquiry- Year 3/4 team

Our Year 3/4 students have been inquiring into the varying ways we can all be more sustainable. Their current Unit of Inquiry focusses on the impact of fashionable clothing as a significant contributor to waste. With the support from some lovely parent volunteers, the students have used donated clothing to make bookmarks, bags and are now upcycling a t-shirt for a friend. The teachers are organising an in-school Learning Expo, where the students will model their t-shirts and explain the process of upcycling. It has been such a pleasure witnessing such high-level student engagement through this real-life, purposeful task and seeing all the ways our new contemporary learning areas can be utilised. Well done 3/4 Team!

Strengthening Inclusive Education in ACT Public Schools

And lastly, have your say! The Education Directorate is working to strengthen inclusive education and is reviewing the way ACT public schools deliver disability education to inform a draft Inclusive Education Strategy. The Strategy will provide longer term direction and system reform to embed inclusive cultures and educational practice in ACT Public Schools. A discussion paper presents a draft position statement on Inclusive Education and 7 proposed themes for the Strategy, informed by the Community Conversation and a review of contemporary evidence. Further information is available on the Education Website- Strengthening Inclusive Education including a link to the Discussion Paper, an online survey and the Community Conversation Report. We look forward to hearing your thoughts on this important work.
