Peter Pan the Musical at the Australian Defence Force Academy
Campbell Primary students from Years 3 to 6 had the incredible privilege to be invited to attend a very special schools’ matinee performance of Peter Pan the Musical performed by the ADFA Performing Arts Company. Three years in the making - thanks to covid cancellations - it was a wonderful opportunity to engage with our own local community while also exposing students to quality amateur arts and performance.
Over 150 students and 11 staff members took up the opportunity to attend, alongside smaller groups from ten other Canberra schools.
The day started with an all too brief trip on a “bendy” bus for the 2km trip to the Australian Defence Force Academy Adams Auditorium. We were escorted for the day by current ADFA cadets (Defence members who are also university students) who were fantastic guides and wealths of information. Students were given the opportunity to learn about the history of parade grounds as well as other military customs and traditions, and have their many many questions answered by this very patient team of volunteers.
The performance itself was wonderful with students fully engaged in the music and colour of live theatre, even getting the opportunity to interact with the show at various stages. We loved booing the evil Captain Hook! Students were thrilled meeting the performers after the show, with some even getting the opportunity to try out the props. Many made the most of the time availale to ask questions, get autographs, and take photos. Hopefully there are some inspired future singing and dancing super stars for future Campbell Primary performances and beyond!
The staff and students of Campbell Primary wanted to extend our heartfelt thanks to our ADFA neighbours for this wonderful and well-run opportunity. We also wanted to acknowledge our senior student group who represented Campbell beautifully and who were respectful guests and audience members. For families who are interested, this is an annual event with 2-3 evening performances open to all members of the public. Tickets are free but donations to the military charity Legacy are encouraged.
We can’t wait for next year!
