NAPLAN 2024
The 2024 NAPLAN comparison data has recently been shared with the schools’ leadership teams. As families would be aware, NAPLAN is an assessment tool completed in Term 1, providing the school with comparative data across ACT public schools.
Across the assessments, the majority of our Year 3 and Year 5 students are sitting in the Strong and Exceeding bands. During several staff meetings, the data from NAPLAN has been analysed. A key part of this work looks at identifying which students sit within each band and what teaching practices will be implemented to support student traction and achievement.
This data set has been utilised to help create the new Strategic Plan that will start in 2025. The draft Plan was shared with the School Board, and once finialised I will share it with the school’s community.
Speaking of data sets, it is that time again for schools to collate staff, families, and student perceptual data. Families will receive an email from the Education Directorate, linking them to the annual Climate Survey. This Survey is open from Friday, 16 August to Friday, 6 September.
Another big week next week, with Camo for a Cause on Wednesday 21, the Book Fair, and run-throughs of Shrek the Musical. I am hoping that the Book Fair will inspire my Book Week costume! (Whole school dress up is on Tuesday 27 August).
I hope all our families are well and are finding something else to watch on TV now the Olympics have sadly finished.
Take care,
Erin Minehan

Save the Date! Whole-School Floriade Excursion
Spring is just around the corner, which means preparations are underway for CPS’ annual whole-school excursion to Floriade! Students from Preschool to Year 6 will travel by bus to Floriade on Wednesday 18 September to enjoy performances by our school bands and choir, as well as some special numbers from the Shrek musical. Permission notes will be shared with families next week - this will also be the opportunity for parents/family members to register their interest to volunteer on the day.
Community Playgroup
Now that the weather is warming up (a tiny bit) it’s a great opportunity to get your little ones out and about for the morning! The remaining Campbell Preschool Community Playgroup dates for Term 3 are Wednesday 28 August, Wednesday 11 September and Wednesday 25 September, from 9:00 am -10:00 am. It will resume again in Term 4. Playgroup is open to all preschool and younger children (not only CPS enrolments), so feel welcome to spread the word around the local community!
On Friday, 9 August, students from Years 3 to 6 were given tickets to the Australian Defence Force Academy's 2024 musical, Pirates of Penzance.
It was a full day of bus rides, lunch, and cultural art enjoyment!
Once again, our students made Campbell Primary School proud with their beautiful uniforms, smiles, and enthusiasm. The cheers were deafening in all the right places during the show, and even though it was long, everyone raved about it at the end.
At the end of the excursion, there was time to play on the beautiful ovals at ADFA and NOT on the parade ground!
We are so grateful to all the staff and cadets who helped us on the day and always appreciate the inclusion we receive from our amazing defence community.
We can't wait for the 2025 musical!

Camo for a Cause - Wednesday 21 August
The Campbell Primary School community has always had a strong connection with the Australian Defence Force and veteran families. In the past, some of our families have sadly needed the services that Legacy provides. While Legacy has been supporting families of our defence serving members for over 100 years – it’s now our turn to help support Legacy.
We will be celebrating Legacy on Wednesday, 21 August by holding a ‘Camo for a Cause’ day. There are a number of ways you can help our school support Legacy.
Legacy merchandise (Legacy bears, wrist bands and Legacy badges) will be available for purchase next Monday 19 through to Wednesday 21August at the front office from 8:30-9:15am. A price list of available merchandise is on the following page.
We are encouraging all students to wear camouflage on Wednesday, 21 August and bring a gold coin donation.
Students can have their faces painted with camouflage paint in the morning of Wednesday and throughout the day. During recess the ADFA hot air balloon will be inflated on the oval, students are invited to watch. The Duntroon band will also play during this time.
Parents are very welcome to come during recess to watch with their families if they wish.
We are celebrating reading at Campbell Primary School!
The Book Fair starts next week! It will be open before and after school from Wednesday to Friday. A great opportunity to update your home libraries!
Three great readers will win $20 to spend at our Book Fair by completing our reading challenge and going in the draw. Complete challenges can be submitted at the Front Office and in LCA.
We are also running a ‘Guess the Reader’ competition in the Library – check it out!
On Tuesday, Week 6 we will hold our Book Week Parade! We are looking forward to seeing lots of book themed costumes!
A huge thank you the families and students who participated and volunteered for our STEM night.
We hope it was a fun evening for everyone.
A big thank you also goes to the teachers and staff at Campbell Primary School.
Over the last couple of months a very dedicated team of year 6 students have been training extremely hard for one very amazing and exciting opportunity. On Thursday the 8th of August, our Campbell Primary School NFL Flag team went and participated in the Flag Football, ACT, State Championships at Deakin Oval.
Wow!! What an amazing day it was. The time had come, all their training and commitment was finally put to the test, and they did not disappoint! The energy, effort and sportsmanship from our team was absolutely fantastic to witness. Our team trained incredibly hard for this moment and this was evident throughout the entire day. Campbell Primary School went up against 5 different ACT teams, rising to second on the ladder and making it into the GRAND FINALE! The team did an absolutely amazing job and placed 2nd overall in the ACT State Championship. The friendship, team spirit, and support was showcased throughout the day, highlighting the new skills and knowledge learnt over the previous months.
Coach Thane and assistant Coach Jones were extremely proud of the team, and were impressed with how well the Campbell Primary Students represented our school on the day.
Congratulations to our team!

National Child Protection Week – Children’s Art Activity Art Entries Open
NAPCAN (National Association for Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect) are looking for artwork to focus on this year’s National Children Protection Week (1-7 September) which raises how every conversation matters.
NAPCAN is looking for artworks to show what children and young people think about their relationships and the conversations they have with family, friends and community. These will then be used in NAPCAN’s campaign (leading up to September) to help show that protecting children is about all of us working together.
For more information and to submit your child’s artwork, visit Art Activity Submission.
Reminder: Free Period Products Available at ACT Schools
All ACT public schools are stocked with free period products so students can access them no matter their circumstances. This is part of the ACT Government’s commitment to ensuring students feel comfortable and confident within our schools.
Free period products are available at our school’s front office. Students can access them at any time by talking to our helpful front office staff.
Sanitary pads are available from the front offices of primary schools, while pads and tampons are available at the front offices of high schools and colleges.
Because menstruation is a fact of life, we believe free access to period products should be too.
