Dear families,
During week 7 we will be welcoming our new preschool students into the school for their Come and Play visits. These will take place after school hours and we are very excited to have them join us. Kindergarten will have two orientation visits on Wednesday 27th November and Wednesday 4th December from 9:30am-10:45am. This will look a little different this year as Kindergarten classrooms for 2020 will be situated in the transportable building.
Class placements 2020
Notes will go home this week as it is now time for children to consider who they work and learn well with in the classroom. In placing children in class groups next year, teachers will endeavour to have at least one child they nominated placed in the same class. If this is not possible, you will be contacted to discuss other options.
Parents can also provide further information that may be useful to teachers in making class placement decisions. As you will be aware it may not be possible to accommodate all requests. Our aim is to place each child with at least one supportive friend in 2020. Please talk about this with your child and return this form by Friday 29th November to ensure your child’s preferences are considered. It is highly recommended that you keep a copy of the children your child lists as often they forget over the holiday period.
As we are reviewing student enrolment, we continue to plan for 2020. Based on our current projected numbers it is anticipated that the class structure and teacher placement for 2020 will be as follows. Please be aware that this may be subject to change if our numbers dramatically change over the holiday period.
Year level | Number of classes | Teacher
Preschool | 3 sessions | Emma Johnston | Kylie Cheater
Kindergarten | 2 or 3 classes | Fleur Forster | Imogen Sinclair | Cathy Dee |
Year 1 | 3 classes | Rachel Green | Kate Perkins | Katherine Wilson |
Year 2 | 2 classes | Rachel Honner | Sarah Kenny
Year 3 | 3 classes | Angela Brown | Kate Marley | Amy Dean |
Year 4 | 2 classes | Emma Smallmon | Nicole Carney
Year 5 | 2 classes | Peter Lawson | Sarah Ebbage
Year 6 | 2 classes | Alistair Scherer | Tim Holness |
Please ensure you advise the front office if you are not returning to Campbell Primary School in 2020.
Bandstrav
Our wonderful Year 6 band students had the chance to perform at Llewellyn Theatre as part of the Bandstrav concert. This concert is the culmination of almost two years of involvement in the Education Directorate’s Instrumental Music Program. Our band was combined with a few schools across the ACT and played three pieces on the evening. The crowd was certainly very appreciative of their efforts. Following their performance students returned to the hall as audience members where they were able to enjoy the rest of the performances. I’d like to thank Ms Nicole Carney, Mr Peter Lawson and William Johnston for their direction of the band over the past two years.
ACT PUBLIC EDUCATION AWARDS
The 2019 ACT Public Education Awards were held on 31 October. The awards acknowledge principals, teachers, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander education leadership, support staff, partnerships and volunteers for their valuable contribution to Canberra public schools. It is with great pleasure that I inform you that our wonderful Imogen Sinclair was nominated by a colleague for Early Childhood Teacher of the Year. Please read below her nomination:
Most schools have that one employee. The life and energy of the staff meeting, the "go to" for advice, the champion of her peers, the supporter of all. At Campbell Primary that person is Imogen Sinclair. Her dedication to teaching is exceptional, with each and every student nurtured and supported in not only their learning journey but in their social and emotional development as well. Her relationship with the parents of her students provides a collaborative and highly effective approach to student development. The sense of love and dedication is immediately and overwhelmingly evident within her class every day. She dedicates many additional hours to planning, differentiating and developing out of the box approaches to meet individual needs, the success of which is obvious in academic and behavioural improvements in all her students. Imogen also dedicates herself to staff morale and welfare, facilitating peer support activities, celebrating staff success, and (importantly) ensuring there is cake for everyone's birthdays! She has a smile, a kind word of encouragement, advice, and time for anyone who needs it. Imogen is currently part of the STEM development team for Campbell Primary, and has dedicated considerable time to the promotion and progression of science and technology subjects as well as incorporating considerable community knowledge and engagement into a special event for students and families. I cannot think of a more dedicated professional or a more caring colleague. Imogen represents the very best practices in teaching, the most dedicated and devoted professional, the most trusted and valued of peers. I cannot think of a more worthy candidate for this calibre of honour.
Certificates for the Boorowa Netball Carnival participants will be handed out during Yuumma next Wednesday, 27th November.
The End of Year Whole School Concert will be on Tuesday, 17th December from 5:00pm for a 5:30pm start.
Bring along a picnic and blanket and enjoy the night of entertainment.
More information to come in Week 7.
Did you know that on a typical Australian summer day, the temperature inside a parked car can be as much as 30 to 40 degrees hotter than the outside temperature?
You may think that leaving children locked in the vehicle for only a few minutes is fine, but it is extremely dangerous.
A young child will quickly dehydrate, lapse into unconsciousness and may never fully recover.
Please be mindful and ensure wherever you go, regardless of how quickly the stop is, to always take the children with you. As stressful and time consuming as this can be, don’t put the children at risk.
If you see a child or infant trapped or unattended in a car, call Triple Zero (000) for immediate assistance from both ACT Policing and ACT Ambulance Service.
It is an offence to knowingly or recklessly leave a child unattended in circumstances or for a length that could result in injury, sickness or other danger to the child.
The penalty for this offence under the Crimes Act 1900 (section 39 Neglect of Children) is a maximum of one year of imprisonment and/or a fine of $15000.
Don’t turn your day into a nightmare.

The ACT Education and Training Directorate (the Directorate) has a duty of care and responsibility to ensure that adequate sun protection is provided for all students and workers, including pre-service teachers and volunteers. This applies while they are on school premises during school hours or undertakingoutdoor school activities when Ultra Violet (UV) levels are 3 and above.
In Canberra sun protection is required for part or most of each day between August and May. The end of May is ‘Hats Off Day’ whilst the beginning of August is ‘Hats On Again’ for all of us.
Students with no hat will be required to play in a well shaded area. This is informally known as ‘No Hat Play in the Shade’
UV levels reach 3 and above in Canberra for part or most of each day between August and May which warrants sensible sun protection during this part of the year.
